Allt skólahald fellur niður 7.feb. / Cancel all schooling

Á fundi aðgerðarstjórnar Almannavarna á Norðurlandi eystra núna seinnipartinn var þeim tilmælum beint til sveitarfélaga að aflýsa á morgun öllu skólahaldi í leik-, grunn- og tónlistarskólum á grundvelli veðurspár. Búist er við að bæði veðurhæð og aðstæður á okkar svæði verði með þeim hætti að enginn ætti að vera á ferli þegar veðrið gengur yfir. Því hefur verið ákveðið að fella niður skólahald bæði í leik- og grunnskólum Akureyrar og tónlistarskólanum á morgun mánudaginn 7. febrúar. Allt starfsfólk er hvatt til að halda kyrru fyrir heima meðan veðrið gengur yfir.

Ákvörðun sem þessi hefur ekki verið tekin áður með þessum hætti en í ljósi þess að búið er að hækka viðbúnaðarstig og helstu sérfræðingar tala fyrir slíkri ákvörðun er þá er hún tekin. Vonandi gengur veðrið yfir á fáum klukkutímum en þar sem reikna má með að það taki nokkra klukkutíma að opna helstu leiðir innanbæjar eftir að veðrinu slotar þá er ólíklegt að ferðafært verði á morgun. Aðgerðarstjórn mun fylgjast með framvindu mála og senda út tilkynningu þegar óhætt verður að vera á ferli.

At a meeting of the Civil Defense Action Board in the Northeast Iceland this afternoon, the recommendation was made to the municipalities to cancel all schooling in preschools, primary and music schools tomorrow based on the weather forecast. It is expected that both the wind strength and conditions in our area will be such that no one should be travelling or outside when the weather is passing. It has therefore been decided to cancel schooling in both preschools and primary schools in Akureyri and the music school tomorrow, Monday 7 February. All staff are asked to stay at home during the weather.

A decision like this has not been made before in this way, but because the level of awareness has been raised and the main experts speak for such a decision, it is then made. Hopefully, the weather will change in a few hours, but since it can be expected that it will take a few hours to open the main roads in the city after the weather clears, it is unlikely that any travel will take place tomorrow. The action committee will monitor the progress of the weather and send out a notification when it is safe to travel.
